Pillow Plate Heat Exchangers in Canada

Pillow plates surfaces are a fully welded and inflated type heat exchangers that are manufactured by stacking two flat sheets of material and fuse welding them together with a strategically positioned welding pattern. The plates can be resistance welded or laser welded.

Pillow Plate heat exchangers are used in heating and cooling applications where it is preferred that the heat exchanger be integral to the process rather pumping a fluid to an external heat exchanger. Pillow Plate heat exchangers is the most common name in the industry for this type of exchanger although they are also referred to as; inflated dimple plate, Platecoil, Econoplate, Temp-Plate, and Laser-Plate. These units can be designed to ASME and can be provided with a CRN.

Types

Immersion Plates

This configuration is just a single plate that is immersed in a liquid or gas (including air) and a hot or cold fluid is circulated inside the plate. These plates can have a variety of surfaces and metallurgy depending on what the application demands. There are Immersion Plate units designed to operate with liquids inside the plates and some are designed to operate with steam inside the plates. The inlet and outlet connections can vary in size and location to accommodate the liquid or steam and condensate flows.

Immersion Banks

An Immersion Bank is simply multiple Immersion plates assembled and manifolded together. This configuration is commonly used to heat flooded tanks. Immersion Banks can be design to fit a specific tank, round or rectangular.

Insertion Banks and Bayonet Banks

A series of plates can be designed and assembled so that the can be inserted in a flange, manway or opening in a tanks or process vessel. This allows for the heat exchanger to be removed for inspection, repair or replacement by just draining the tank.

Clamp-on Bank

Heat Recovery Banks

A series of plates can be assembled and enclosed in a duct that can be mounted to a discharge line or exhaust vent. This configuration creates a low pressure drop so it can be often retrofitted to and existing system with minimal impact to the flow. The plates are spaced apart so that fouling is minimized and it can easily be cleaned. These banks are designed for use with a gas on the outside and either a gas or liquid in the inside.

Clamp-on Banks

Custom plates can be designed to attached to the outside of tanks or vessels providing direct contact with the vessel to heat or cool the internal fluid. Clamp-on units can be flat or curved to match the profile of the vessel. They can be designed in multiple sections to match the profile or circumference of the tank. They can be thermally designed to operate with liquid or steam inside.
